I Built an Insulin Calculator WebApp in One Afternoon Using AI Tools
I recently developed an Insulin Calculator WebApp that calculates insulin dosage based on food carbohydrate content. By integrating the Open Food Facts API and leveraging AI tools like ChatGPT and Vercel v0 Chatbot AI, I built and deployed the entire project in one afternoon. The app features a modern UI with internationalization and theme switching. Check out the live demo https://aflussing.github.io/Insulin-Calculator/ and the code on GitHub https://github.com/aflussing/Insulin-Calculator. I’d love to hear your thoughts and any feedback on further improvements!
Curious if you inject insulin yourself?
I’m Type 1 diabetic and have been injecting for 10+ years now.
I really see a tool like this being useful for newly diagnosed and/or younger diabetics, particularly if you add a visual component.
I inject 4-6 times a day and after a few months of that you really start to develop a reasonable feel for how much to inject based on a lot of factors. I couldn’t tell you how many carbs are in my dinner but I feel like tonight is a 6 unit night.
I think this would benefit from visual component of this and the input could be simpler. Like just show bread and say a piece of bread is usually about 20g of carbs. Then show other foods that are about 20g so the user can make these associations faster.
Or make it a game and show the food and ask the user to guess the carbs.
