Seems to be the current Zeitgeist in big tech companies. We should work harder for less money in the race to AI (with the promise it will replace us). Got a similar speech in my company recently.
You've got to figure that there's no way they can employ that many people and still have a majority of them be even average productivity.
Plus their cash cow really has never needed maximum productivity either, and some of the various other jobs are reported to be quite cushy from many perspectives.
Regardless there have always been lots of brilliant people, and plenty above average too, often productively but probably more often above average in other ways.
But probably not as productive as a much smaller but average company, simply because they are average.
So apparently the same number of employees at an average company in 40 hrs can get done as much as Googlers at 60 hrs and that must be what he's talking about ;)
He should have been setting the example he wants others to follow for quite some time beforehand.

Is it because googlers tend to forget things overnight and cannot continue in the morning?
CEOs and directors sometimes demonstrate intelligence levels on par with 7B ERP-finetuned LLMs.
Well, they do have enough money to pay that much overtime and the CEO is in such a good mood :)
