It is absolutely not too expensive. The comparison right now is paying software engineers to write this code. Even when it fails to compile this tool is an order of magnitude or two cheaper to write semi-okayish code than the most junior of interns.
And then the context window will get bigger over the coming months.

It's like .14$ per million tokens on Deepseek vs 3$ per million on Claude.
Even if Claude is 10x as good it's simply too expensive to compete.

It looks like Deepseek will probably be able to do this for a fraction of the cost.
It's a matter of time for someone to roll out an open source version of the cli coder tool that lets me pick a cheaper LLM.
I like the tool, but it makes so many tiny mistakes I wouldn't trust it at work.
